Fallingwater  by Frank Lloyd Wright

Located in Bear Run Pennsylvania, Fallingwater was built in 1932 for the Kauffman family at a cost of $155,000. The American Institute of architecture, AIA voted this house the best house built in America’s first 200 years.  It is arguably the best know house in the world.  There were two elements of controversy.  First the house had a budget of $40,000.  Wright was almost 400% over budget.  But the beauty of the design convinced the Kauffmans to spend the money.  The second was a dispute over how much steel should have be used to reinforce the balconies.  Wright underestimated the amount needed.

Fallingwater opened a new chapter in American architecture, and is perhaps rightly considered Wright's greatest work, for he was first and foremost an architect of houses. In its careful yet startling integration of stone walls anchored to the bedrock and modern reinforced concrete terraces hovering in space, Connors states that Fallingwater may be understood as 'one of the great critiques of the modern movement in architecture, and simultaneously one of its masterpieces'. Yet we cannot help feeling that there is more to this design than even that; this is an architecture that seizes our imagination, letting us see space and habitation in ways that seem new, but which we simultaneously feel to be ancient, somehow fundamental to our human nature.

We picked this home because of how the home seemed to grow from the site and blend perfectly with nature.  Views from the window and floating balconies are breath taking.  It is the perfect place to relax.
